Chandrika Devi Temple

The holy Hindu temple of Goddess Chandrika Devi is located in the little town of Kathvara, some 34 kilometers from Lucknow. It is a popular tourist destination located on the Gomti River banks, a major religious and cultural thoroughfare in Uttar Pradesh. The ancient Chandrika Devi Temple dates back 300 years and honors the goddess in her guise of Chandrika Devi. It is also stated that some local peasants went out exploring the woods 250 years ago and came into this beautiful spot that the foliage had concealed. The statue of Devi was discovered the next day by a peasant and relocated to its current location. Knowing of goddess Chandrika Devi's apparition led to the subsequent construction of a temple that has been frequented by worshipers ever since. How to explore Chandrika Devi Temple?

- The temple's courtyard is relatively large, and to see the god, worshippers must pass through steel pipes. There are three heads on the carved rock idol of the temple's supreme god. - A Havan Kund and Yagyashala may be found next to the main shrine where the Hindu rituals can be conducted. - The trust of the temple maintains a nearby hotel and a large hall where visitors can stay. - Next to the temple is a pond (Kund) called Sudhanva Kund or Mahisagar Tirtha, in the center of which is a massive statue of God Shiva. - The temple is constantly bustling with worshippers. On the holy days of Amavasya and Navratri, the attendance of devotees typically doubles. Numerous religious ceremonies take place in the temple on these days. Many devotees travel long distances to pray here. - On these holy days in March/April and October/November, a huge fair is held at the temple.
