Humayun's Tomb

Humayun's Mausoleum, also known as Maqbara-e-Humayun, is a work of art in architecture. It is regarded as the first garden mausoleum ever constructed in India. The 1993 designation of Humayun's tomb as a UNESCO World Heritage Site increases the significance of this magnificent red sandstone building. THINGS TO DO AT HUMAYUN'S TOMB:

 • Visit the many graves built according to the titles that the deceased held, each in a distinctive manner: The complex includes Humayun's Tomb, which spans around 27 hectares of land. The Mausoleum is home to more than 100 burials, earning it the nickname 'Dormitory of the Mughals.' The majority of these graves, which may belong to noblemen, are found in rooms inside the platform. It's also interesting to learn about the Arab Serai, where the Mausoleum's artisan resided. • Admire the magnificent architecture of the Mausoleum: The impressive architecture of the Mausoleum is a development of earlier Islamic structures. However, it differs noticeably from them thanks to a fusion of Persian and regional Indian elements, created by the Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas and erected in the Persian style. A special feature is a blue and yellow tile lining on its little domes. • Walk to the tomb's enormous geometric garden: The enormous Mausoleum of Humayun is constructed of red sandstone and is situated in the middle of the garden. It is inlaid with contrasting white marble. The four quadrants (char bagh) of this garden were intended to depict the four rivers that flow from paradise, which the Quran promises will be the final resting place for the devout. • Get astounded as you see it glimmering under the sky: The Mausoleum's iconic marble dome has received 800 energy-efficient LED lights attached to it to provide illumination after dusk. The shrine of the 14th-century Sufi Saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya is located across from Humayun's Tomb. It is well known for its devotional song qawwali performances, which are held there every Thursday at sunset. 2.
