Vienna State Opera

The Wiener Staatsoper, which first opened in 1869, is proud of both its storied history and the wide range of performances it now presents. There has been a dominance of Austrian artists in the Viennese ballet since the nineteenth century. Vienna's Wiener Staatsoper was founded to preserve ballet's history and to be a location that offers ballet opportunities. The Vienna State Opera is among the best in the world. It has a long and in-depth history that is full of customs and rituals. The present-day is full of performances and activities that are incredibly diverse. They have had a long history of success, with ten full seasons and numerous overseas tours to their credit.

More than 60 operas and ballets are performed throughout the course of each season's 350 shows. Each performance features guest stars who join the regular ensemble and the conductor on stage. These are performed with the assistance of a special orchestra, the Wiener Staatsoper Orchestra.

How to explore Wiener Staatsoper?

  • Take a guided tour of the Vienna State Opera and see what goes on behind the scenes of the world's greatest repertory enterprise, which is usually hidden from the eyes of the evening opera-goer.
  • In the course of the tour, which lasts about 40 minutes, you will pick up a wealth of knowledge about the opera house's past, its design, and the industry as a whole.
  • Admire the art in the beautiful paintings hung along the staircase and halls. These depict ballet, comic opera, and tragic opera.
  • Check out the allegorical statues that embody the seven liberal arts: architecture, sculpture, poetry, dance, musical art, drama, and painting.

  • The Tea Salon, previously the Emperor's Salon, which is situated between the staircase and the centre boxes, is the opera house's historical highlight.
  • 22-carat gold leaf is used to embellish the walls and ceiling. The golden art contains a beauty that is palpable.
