One of Santorini's most well-known, picturesque, and photographed Greek Catholic churches is the Church of the Three Bells in Fira. The Church of the Ascension of the Blessed Virgin Mary is another name for it.

History:

At the location of the current church, there were two cave churches in the middle of the 17th century. Sadly, the gradual lowering of the cliff caused them to be destroyed. The 1757-built church took its place. It has been rebuilt numerous times since then. The earthquake in 1956 caused significant damage, but it was reconstructed.

The church is situated in a very attractive area, and the dome and bell tower, which overlook the caldera, are among the most popular photo subjects in Greece and on Santorini. Every year on September 15th, this church observes a solemn indulgence.

Best Things to see:

This is the well-known church in Fira that can be seen in all the tourism photos of Santorini. With three bells, a blue dome, and breathtaking sea views, it is a famous church. The Catholic Church of the Dormition is the official name of the building.

The structure is situated near Fira, straight above the towering cliffs that dominate western Santorini. It was initially constructed in 1757 and has since had numerous renovations and additions over the years. After being severely damaged by the disastrous 1956 Amorgos earthquake, the current building was rebuilt in 1960.

It provides one of the greatest views of the sea, the caldera, and the towering cliffs of the western end of the island, making it a favorite location for photographers and Instagrammers. The Three Bells of Fira is located along the shore around a 10 to 15 minutes walk from the center of Fira.

Signs clearly state the steps you must take to get there from the seaside route. Try to go early in the morning to avoid the crowds since it is one of the most popular photo locations on Santorini and there is frequently a line to take pictures.
