The old Cunningham clock tower bell, also known as Ghanta Ghar, used to ring to signal the passing of time for the inhabitants of Peshawar.

People stopped noticing the bell due to technological advancement and the rapid pace of modern life. However, the tower's 85-foot height makes it difficult to miss and attracts attention from a distance. The clock tower, which serves as a reminder of Peshawar's past and has lately undergone restoration and rehabilitation by the government, still accurately keeps time to this day thanks to its century-old clock and iron bell. Learn about the history of the site:

In Peshawar, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, the Cunningham Clock Tower was constructed in 1900 'in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen Empress's Diamond Jubilee.'The Balmukand family, according to historians, provided the funding for the clock tower's construction.

After the partition of Pakistan, the family moved to Amritsar, India, where they now run a culinary business under the name 'Clock Tower.'

After Sir George Cunningham, a prominent British governor and political figure in the region, the tower was named. As part of celebrations for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, it was made accessible to the public in 1900. This stunning clock tower evokes a bygone age in Britain:

Given that it has been around for more than a century, it is a must-see location that nobody would want to skip during their visit to Peshawar.

That is why both locals and visitors find it to be enticing. The surrounding homes, some of which are as old as the clock tower, reflect the region's vibrant culture and rich history. Stroll inside the structure for deeper insights into national history:

The tower has a diameter of 31 inches. Its base measures 43 feet by 13 feet by 4 meters and is 26 meters (85 feet) tall inside Peshawar's renowned ghanta ghar chowk (clock tower square).

The interior walls of the clock tower entrance are embellished with pictures of Sir George Cunningham and James Strachan, the tower's architect. There are pictures of the Peshawar Fire Brigade's vintage vehicles and other significant landmarks. The great vantage point serves many vistas to the onlookers:

The clock tower is not only one of these significant historical locations but also provides a view of several of these locations.

The Qila Bala Hissar, the Gor Kathri ancient site, the Qissa Khawani Bazaar, the crumbling ancestral home of Bollywood legend Raj Kapoor, and the bustling Peepal Mandi marketplaces can all be viewed from the top of the tower.

The Kabuli gate, one of Peshawar's 16 historic gates, is not far from the clock tower.
