The most prominent royal palace in Jeddah is the Al-Salam Palace, which is the official residence of the Saudi King when he visits the city. It is located in the Al-Shatiea district of Jeddah and serves as a place for hosting official functions and receiving foreign dignitaries during their visits to the city.

It is one of the many palaces owned by the Saudi royal family across the country.


It was designed for King Fahd of Saudi Arabia by the Japanese architect Kenzo Tange. It was completed in 1982; it is 14,000 sq meters in size internally and is spread over a 65,000 sq meter site. The palace has two stories and a basement. Its design revolves around a covered internal patio, providing a central connection to various public functions within the palace. The exterior of the palace is adorned with granite cladding, adding to its majestic appearance.
