Since its installation in 2014, East-West/West-East has established itself as a well-known landmark in Qatar. Richard Serra, one of the most notable living sculptors, created the piece of art. East-West/West-East is more of a testament to Richard Serra's ability to manipulate space than any of his other works conceptually.

In Islamic tradition, the number seven has a specific significance. With this sculpture made of seven steel plates, Richard Serra pays respect to the culture. Two of the four statues are 14.7 meters tall, and the others are 16.7 meters high. Even so, they are all on the same level as one another since they have been topographically corrected.
The pillars were built to create a straight path between the eroding cliffs synonymous with the area's geology. Both residents and tourists come to the location in significant numbers to view the installations. The pillars grab attention on the serene surroundings of the cliff and the coast.
