A 39-foot-tall replica of the Statue of Liberty stands at the north entrance of Colmar, which is the birthplace of the statue's sculptor, Auguste Bartholdi. The original statue stands in New York Harbor.

The original artist passed away on July 4, 2004, making this year the 100th anniversary of his passing. The replica was dedicated on that day.

THINGS TO DO AT THE STATUE OF LIBERTY:

• Recognize the historical, artistic, and cultural importance of a structure of such magnitude:

This statue is a replica of the Statue of Liberty, and it is made out of resin and stands 12 meters tall. It was created to commemorate the passing of Auguste Bartholdi, a sculptor born in Colmar and responsible for the 'Liberty lightening the world' statue.

He continued to create other statues, monuments, and pictures until his death in 1904, one of which is a cast-iron fountain found in the vicinity of the Capitol in Washington, District of Columbia.

• Discover how the natives of the city revered the country boy who made it big:

Colmar organized various activities, animations, and events to commemorate the passing of Bartholdi on the anniversary of his death.

This replica of the Statue of Liberty was chosen by the Municipality of Colmar to be placed at the northern entrance to the town.

Its objective is to pay respect to the Colmar native, considered the most esteemed artist in the region, and to the work of art that is widely regarded as being among the most well-known in all of art history.

A previous symbol of this statue's connection to the United States was the signing of a twinning agreement between Colmar and Princeton in 1986. Princeton is a university town located close to New York City.

• Here, in this spot, you'll find both a memorial and a museum dedicated to Bartholdi:

Suppose you want to learn more about the famous statue that Bartholdi created while he was creating the statue for New York. In that case, you can do so at the nearby Bartholdi Museum, which houses several models of the statue in various sizes.

This museum also features several statues that the sculptor from Colmar created specifically for the city of Colmar.
