Mount Benacantil is a rugged mountain that rises above the city of Alicante. It is the most prominent feature of the Alicante urban landscape and serves as the iconic representation of the city. The natural haven offers you the opportunity to go on fantastic hikes with equally breathtaking vistas.

The medieval fortification of Saint Barbara sits atop the Benacantil Mount in Alicante, which casts a shadow over the city's old center and harbor area. One of the most famed features of the city is the bare slope on the south side of the mountain that faces the ocean. It towers 169 meters above ground level.

How to explore Monte Benacantil?

  • The mount is home to a forest that is composed of pine and eucalyptus trees, in addition to several stunning vantage spots, and it is a popular hiking destination. In Spanish, these vantage points are referred to as miradors, providing breathtaking views of the city and the expansive Mediterranean Sea that lies beyond it.
  • There are a variety of different hikes that begin at the Centro de Educación Ambiental del Monte Benacantil that you can take if you would like to ascend to the top of Monte Benacantil.
  • On the northern side, it is covered by pine trees and plants, but on the southern side, which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, there is nothing but rocks.
  • As soon as you reach the summit, you will not only be able to take in the sights, but you will also be able to see Castillo de Santa Bárbara, a castle that was built sometime between the 8th and 11th centuries. Discover Alicante from a vantage point you have never had before by climbing Monte Benacantil.
  • This hill can be reached by a number of different routes, some of which are steeper than others. However, the ascent is well worth the reward of being able to see out over the entire bay, port, and beach of Postiguet, as well as the Explanada de Espana. These views from the summit are visible from a quaint little cafe at the top of the mountain, where you may relax with a beverage and a bite to eat.
