Discover the different forms of contemporary and modern art from the Arab world by visiting Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. The Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Qatar, supports innovation, fosters conversation, and stimulates fresh ideas while providing an Arab viewpoint on modern and contemporary art. The museum offers exhibitions, a temporary library, and a strong educational program in addition to its impressive collection of over 9,000 pieces.

The museum is a fantastic resource for locals and visitors to discover the modern art scene with this specific geographic and cultural focus thanks to its mix of a sizable permanent collection, a wide range of temporary exhibits, talks, and seminars, and Look for Jewad Selim's Baghdadiat, a mixed-media piece on hardboard that contains imaginative crescent patterns—meaningful symbols for Muslims—and reflects ordinary life in Baghdad.

The permanent collection, one of the largest of its kind anywhere in the world, started with a donation from H.E. Sheikh Hassan bin Mohammed bin Ali Al Thani and now includes over 9,000 works of Arab art. From the middle of the nineteenth century to the present, media have included works of sculpture, painting, and even video.

The artwork of Jassim Zaini is especially noteworthy for illustrating how culture changed during the 1950s and 1970s, a time when Qatar was established as a state, and oil production had a big impact on workers and people's daily lives.

Make sure to check out whichever transient art is on display right now. The Crusades were depicted in Wael Shawky's marionette films; the essence of viewing and appreciating art was explored in the multi-artist exhibition Tea with Nefertiti; and Cai Guo-gunpowder Qiang's drawings. The museum also provides youngsters with art-focused classes, stories, artist conversations and a substantial research library.

Library:

The library houses one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of periodicals and books on general art history, contemporary art globally, and art history, with a focus on the Arab world. Publications are available in a variety of languages, including English and Arabic. Staff members who speak Arabic and English are on hand throughout business hours to assist with locating pertinent collections and research resources.

The library is the ideal setting for introspective inquiry and study. You will have access to free WiFi and free use of a copy machine while being surrounded by more than 7,000 books and works of art. If any of the curators are accessible, they could also be able to help you if you're looking up information about one of their temporary exhibits.
