Omar Bin Al-Khattab Mosque's construction dates back more than 1,300 years. It is among the kingdom's most significant historical, cultural, and heritage assets and is a popular tourist destination in the province of Jouf in the north. It was the first mosque in the kingdom to permit non-Muslims to enter.

A magnificent minaret rises majestically from the nearby historical residential and historic ruins. It is situated next to the Omar Bin Al-Khattab mosque. It is considered to be one of the oldest minarets in the world. It is the mosque's most prominent feature and is around 12.7 meters tall.

The towering minaret gives the ancient home's skyline a distinctly Islamic aspect despite the current development of buildings and television masts.

How to explore Omar Bin Al-Khattab Mosque?

  • To get to the mosque, which is below ground, you must go down two flights of steps. Compared to the prayer halls it leads to, the mosque's entryway is simply made.
  • You can follow cobblestone walkways to the mosque's quadrangle courtyard. It's pretty quiet and serene in this area.
  • There are two sections to the mosque. The mosque's original structure is located on the northern side, and a much later addition is situated across it.
  • Surprisingly, the more contemporary construction doesn't have a door so that you can step inside without permission.
  • Check the uneven stones that are mortared together to form the structure.
  • The prayer room is significantly narrow in length and significant in width. The mosque has prayer carpets, demonstrating that prayer is still conducted today. Attend a prayer meeting here to experience the religious vibe.
  • Straw is used for the building's roof, while wood logs are used for reinforcement. The mosque has lanterns hanging from the ceiling that gives it an antique feel to it.
  • Head for the oldest section of the mosque, which has tiny, seemingly-new wooden doors. However, once inside, it appears like most of the old building is still there, complete with an identical straw roof and irregular stones in the walls.
  • Surprisingly, both structures have public access to the summit, and a route of rutted stairs leads to the roof.
