Tomb of Mariam Zamani

Mariam-uz-Zamani, commonly referred to as Jodha Bai in modern times, was a Rajput princess of Jaipur and the Hindu consort of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Her son Jahangir erected this tomb. This building was originally a baradari that the Mughals transformed into a tomb by recreating the four building faces in the Mughal architectural style of the time and making minor adjustments like adding a crypt underneath the central compartment intended to be used as the queen's funeral chamber. The red stone stairs designed for the purpose might be used to access the crypt. A cenotaph was positioned in the center of the room, right above the actual tomb, which was enclosed on all sides by a red stone 'jalied' balustrade. The Mariam cenotaph and forty chambers are located on the ground floor. Red sandstone was used to sculpt the stunning structure. The Hindu and Islamic influences in the building are highly regarded. The tomb is located within a tranquil garden complex. The square mausoleum is identified by carved red sandstone panels on its exterior and is surrounded by lovely green gardens. The roof is decorated with chattris and contains chajjas, or mezzanine floors, at each of the four corners (umbrella). The queen's original tomb is in the middle of the underground mortuary chamber. The fantastic architectural blending of Hindu and Islamic styles may be seen in the Mariam Zamani Tomb. The tomb's lack of a dome, which is present in most constructions from that era, is one of its distinguishing characteristics. Red sandstone cut into multiple panels and embellished with geometric designs carved in a bas-relief was used for veneering the baradari's exterior. A decorative octagonal tower has been erected on each corner of the building. The pillars and brackets on this are similarly composed of red stone. The towers' bottom portions are crimson, and their domes are white. You might even hear birds chirping in the quiet and calm environment surrounding this well-known tourist destination in Agra.
