Aburi Botanical Gardens

The color green represents harmony, nature, and balance. And in the middle of a bustling city like Accra, we all occasionally need a little of that. While a visit to the Aburi Botanical Garden won't solve all of your problems, it will undoubtedly provide some serenity and comfort.

Aburi, a small town in Ghana's Eastern Region, is home to the Aburi Botanical Gardens. It is located about an hour's drive north of Ghana's capital, Accra. Aburi has long been regarded as a tranquil retreat from the city because of its setting in the lush Akuapem Hills.

Aburi has a climate that is comparatively chilly and windy according to its elevation of about 450 metres. In the twenty-first century, botanical gardens continue to be the principal draw. The aerial views back to Accra can be spectacular in good weather. The fact that it is the oldest and largest botanic garden in Ghana would appeal to its fans.

You are free to wander about at your leisure once you are inside Aburi Gardens. On the lawns, there is plenty of room to set up camp, unwind, and have a picnic. As an alternative, you can eat something at one of the restaurants on-site. Aburi Gardens is known for its varied kebabs and palm wine.

Trees of Life:

The artistically carved 'tree of life' by artist Kofi Sale is one of the most remarkable trees in Aburi Gardens. Each side makes a commentary on leadership, human interactions, coexisting with nature, and other topics. To fully comprehend Kofi Sale's artistic vision, you must pay close attention to this tree.

Make your way to the wide lawn that is on the left side of the main entrance to find it. On the main lawn, close to the enormous kapok tree/log, is where you'll locate Kofi Sale's tree.

Old Kapok Tree:

One of Ghana's most picturesque sights, Aburi Gardens is likely to inspire the photographer in you. There is a photo opportunity for everyone, from the avenue of tall palm trees bordering the entry to the abandoned helicopter.

Don't forget to look at the main lawn's 150+-year-old kapok tree. As you stroll around the gardens, you'll see various marked trees and bamboos that have been thoughtfully planted to create the ideal photo backdrop. Strike a stance, go ahead.
